Music Program

Music is for everybody, and like many of the other marvels of humanity, needs to be inculcated as early as possible.  This is not some kind of ‘high culture’ limited to the privileged, but a treasure chest which can and must be made available and accessible to enrich every life. (Rattle, 1998)

An aural approach to music education
Glasshouse Country Christian College embraces an aural approach to music education because we believe this is the best way for students to realise their musical potential, and we base our music education on the principle that every child can succeed in music. The human voice is the main instrument used in the classroom because it is the first and primary tool for creating sound and making music, and is therefore the main mode of communicating aural awareness. Classroom music program also includes keyboards, ukulele, guitar and various percussion instruments. In addition to classroom music, Glasshouse Country Christian College offers an instrumental program and includes Year 3 Smart Strings Program and Year 5 Instrumental Band Program (compulsory).

Instrumental Music
All students who wish to be involved in the instrumental program are given the opportunity to join. At Glasshouse Country Christian College we provide many different opportunities for students to become involved in instrumental music. Students can commence learning an instrument from Prepatory Year (limited to some instruments) through to Year 12. We provide private individual and group tuition for piano, guitar, percussion, woodwind and brass instruments, and vocal. Students who choose to participate in lessons are encouraged to become involved in a broad range of musical experiences beyond the regular classroom lessons. Please refer to the Instrumental Handbook for a complete list of ensembles available for students to attend.
