Senior School

Senior School at GCCC

In developing our Senior Programme we considered a number of pathway options that we wanted to make available to students. We wanted to ensure that students are provided with the support and pathways necessary for them to successfully move from schooling into the workplace or further education.

Year 10

This forms the foundation for senior studies, providing insight into prerequisites and preferences to enable students to enter these important years with confidence. Students have the opportunity to select subjects that line up with subjects that they would like to study in Years 11 and 12.

Year 11 and 12

The academic pathway includes a selection of Authority and Authority Registered subjects as well as access to university subjects through QUT and Sunshine Coast University.

Results in Authority-Registered subjects are not included in the calculation of OPs and FPs.

Our vocational pathway offers VET certificate courses in partnership with Brisbane North Institute of TAFE and Sunshine Coast Institute of TAFE. We also have School-based Traineeships and Apprenticeships available. Our program is flexible enough to allow students the opportunity to keep their options open by doing both Academic and VET courses. We also have access to Distance Education thus broadening subject options even further.

There are three components for the Senior course:

1.  Core study:

  • LIFE (Living In Faith Everyday) Christian Studies.
  • Year 10 students study Cert I in Work Education.
  • All students study the LIFE course over the three years.

2. Core electives:

  • English OR English Communication
  • Mathematics A OR Mathematics B (and in Years 11 and 12 Prevocational Mathematics is also added as a choice)
  • All students must study an English and a Mathematics subject and the two options allow for choice according to ability level.

Elective studies:

  • Year 10 students must select four subject electives from the choices available.
  • Year 11 and 12 students must select three (plus one study period) or four elective subjects from the choices available.

Students need to keep in mind their future career path when choosing elective subjects.

Proverbs 1:5 “Let the wise listen and add to their learning, and let the discerning get guidance.”
